Chemical Structure and Composition
It has a well-defined molecular structure. Chemical Properties and Reactivity
Reactivity of Mercapto Group: The mercapto group is highly nucleophilic and can react with electrophilic species. It can form strong bonds with metal surfaces, which is useful for metal surface treatment and the preparation of metal-polymer composites. It can also participate in thiol-ene click reactions, which are valuable in polymer synthesis and modification.
Hydrolysis and Condensation of Trimethoxysilyl Group: In the presence of moisture, the trimethoxysilyl groups hydrolyze to form silanol groups (-Si(OH)₃). These silanol groups can then condense with each other or with hydroxyl groups on the surface of substrates such as glass, silica, or metals. This reaction leads to the formation of a siloxane network, which provides excellent adhesion and surface modification properties.
